With Gotham 360, New York’s Largest Nursing Home Sees Huge Savings in Energy Consumption and Cost
When New York’s largest Inpatient Acute Care Hospital & Nursing Home needed help to quickly reduce energy consumption and costs, they sought the help of Gotham 360. With a customized plan to evaluate data, secure better contracts, facilitate audits, and provide continuous usage and billing monitoring, Gotham 360 rose to the challenge.
The Client is New York’s largest Inpatient Acute Care Hospital/Nursing Home which requires a lot of patience – and energy supply. To own and manage such a large facility means the tough task of trying to control energy consumption and costs. The client needed to find a way to do both and still provide their residents a high level of service. Reaching out to Gotham 360 for assistance proved to be a winning way to achieve their goals.
The Challenge for the client was to re-negotiate existing contracts and secure new competitive energy supply contracts for their group of buildings. Gotham 360 listened to the needs of the client and planned the initial phase of the solution, which included:
◄ helping the client evaluate their overall risk profile
◄ matching objectives with appropriate products
◄ educating the client on dynamics and options in highly volatile markets
◄ developing hedge plans
◄ facilitating web-based energy reporting
◄ securing low cost energy contracts under favorable terms and conditions
The Solution by Gotham 360 was to first evaluate the client’s pre-existing energy contract and weigh the benefit of staying with the current supplier or exploring the marketplace for a more favorable contract. Working closely with Senior Management, Gotham 360 identified the risk tolerance and overall corporate energy management goals of the client and prepared to move forward. Gotham 360 got started with the next phase of the plan:
◄ gathering historical account information for each property
◄ identifying suppliers interested in bidding
◄ serving as liaison between the client and eligible suppliers
◄ soliciting rounds of competitive bids from suppliers
◄ negotiating contract terms with “short-listed” suppliers
◄ leading discussions about market dynamics and timing of contract execution
The final step in determining the best energy supplier for the client was to organize all the data, help them make an informed decision and facilitate contract execution.
Once the supply contracts were evaluated and secured, Gotham 360 worked with the suppliers to achieve accurate flow of billing data directly to Gotham 360’s client services group. The client was then personally trained to access and view all their energy usage and billing data in Gotham 360’s special online dashboard reporting system.
Gotham 360 wanted to make sure the client had ongoing success with their energy challenges and provided them detailed budget and forecast data for usage through 2009. Gotham 360 also provided the client with continuous market analysis and hedge strategy support throughout the term of their supply contracts.
The Results of Gotham 360’s participation provided the client an impressive savings of approximately 30% below the initial and pre-existing supply contract.
In addition, Gotham 360 facilitated an on-campus energy audit to determine the most favorable way the client could attain energy cost savings through lower consumption. Gotham 360 assisted the client in the evaluation of potential auditing firms, negotiated cost of the audit, and even secured grant funding through programs administered by the State of New York. The grant was approved and saved the client 50% of the total audit cost. |
